It is becoming a cliche to say that privacy is dead in this digitally networked world, where content can be copied and distributed at the speed of light. Nowadays anyone can post anything about you anywhere online, with or without your knowledge or consent, with apparent impunity.
But when tug-of-war competitors feel the rope slipping between their fingers they don't let go of the rope straight away do they? So we shouldn't give up the fight to protect our online reputations. There are ways of fighting back against the abusive and the intrusive. In my latest WebWise feature in the Sunday Times, 'Someone out there doesn't like me' I explore some of these ways.
But just remember, whatever you post online - be it intemperate blog rants or compromising photos - could, like Banquo's ghost, come back to haunt you. For ever.
